As there are those who seek the shelter of darkness for nefarious deeds, so too are there those who would strip away that cover, to reveal the shadows that live and move among us. Lightbringers are specifically devoted to combatting creatures of Shadow – those hailing from the Plane of Shadow, as well as those who use Shadow magics, and even races of the Underdark. Lightbringers are shining beacons of faith in the darkness, tireless defenders of order and light. They can be found among the clergy of most of the larger temples to the sun god(dess), spreading the faith of light and fighting the darkness.

Most Lightbringers are straight paladins, because of the combative nature of the class, but some are cleric/paladins or cleric/fighters of the Sun god(dess); some few are straight clerics.

Hit Die: d10.

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Lightbringer.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Lightbringers gain no additional weapon or armor proficiencies.

Shadowsense (Su): A Lightbringer can sense the presence of shadow creatures and illusions using Shadow magic merely by concentrating. Even when not actively sensing such, he gains a +4 bonus on Will saves vs. shadow illusions. This ability is otherwise identical to a paladin's detect alignment and can be used at will.

Darkvision (Ex): In order to combat the creatures of Shadow, a Lightbringer must be able to see them. Lightbringers gain the ability to see in the dark (darkvision).

Spells Per Day: At the indicated levels, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, metamagic feats, etc.), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Lightbringer, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Turn Shadow (Su): As clerics and paladins can turn undead, so too can Lightbringers turn shadow creatures. The Lightbringer makes a turn check as normal, using his cleric or paladin level (whichever is higher) plus his Lightbringer levels. Creatures summoned via shadow conjuration or similar spells can be affected with this ability. Using this ability takes the place of a normal turn undead attempt for the day.

Radiant Aura (Su): Lightbringers are surrounded by an aura of yellow-white light equal to faerie fire that grants them a +2 deflection bonus to their Armor Class against shadow creatures, and a +2 on all saves against shadow-based spells and effects (including spells with the Darkness descriptor or Shadow subschool; this does not apply to Will saves to disbelieve illusions). The Lightbringer can suppress the aura at will as a free action, though this does not negate the bonuses.

At 6th level, three times per day, the Lightbringer can will the aura to burst forth in a blaze of light, in effect creating a daylight spell that lasts for one round per combined paladin and Lightbringer level.

At 9th level, the aura can be used as a sunburst. The limit of three uses per day still stands – that is, if the light burst power is used twice, the sunburst can only be used once and then all uses are exhausted for the day.

Neither of the above abilities can be used if the aura is being suppressed. Each use of either ability suppresses the aura (both the light and the AC and save bonuses) for 1 minute afterward.

Radiant Weapon (Su): Once per day per class level, as a free action, a Lightbringer can infuse her weapon with light energy. It gives off light as a torch, if it didn't already, and deals an additional 1d6 points of damage vs. undead and shadow creatures. The light lasts for one minute per class level.

Shadowguard (Ex): Lightbringers are immune to spells and effects that attack or damage them through their shadow – spells like shadowstrike, shadowstrike weapons, the touch of a soul reaver, etc.

Touched By the Sun (Ex): The Lightbringer gains a +4 resistance bonus to saves vs. ability damage or ability or HD drain from negative energy – either via spell or creature. This applies to both the initial Fort save, if any, and the subsequent Fort saves to recover the lost points or Hit Dice.

Share Aura (Su): By touching another willing being and exerting his will, the Lightbringer can extend his aura to cover that being also, granting the other person the bonus to Armor Class and saves, but not the ability to use the light burst or sunburst powers. This ability can be used at will and lasts for as long as the Lightbringer maintains her concentration on keeping the aura over the other person. He can remove the protection at any time as a free action. Using the light burst or sunburst powers also removes the aura from the other person.

Dispel Shadow (Su): In place of a normal turn attempt, a Lightbringer can make a concentrated attack against a shadow creature (including illusions created with shadow conjuration spells). This is similar to a turn attempt in that he summons positive energy, but he must make a successful melee attack against the creature. If the attack hits, the creature must make a Fort save (DC 10 + combined paladin and Lightbringer levels + Cha bonus) or have its shadow essence torn from its body and sent back to the Plane of Shadow, effectively killing it instantly. In the case of illusions, the spell is immediately dispelled.
