  These horrid undead creatures were first created by Zagada, a vampire necromancer. Fortunately, they are fairly rare, but others are discovering the methods of creating hounds of their own. The process involves energy draining a mastiff or rottweiler, then casting a modified version of enlarge on the corpse, then animate dead. The result is a hairless, gray-skinned hound the size of a small pony (they stand 4 feet at the shoulder) with massive jaws easily capable of crushing a man's arm or leg. They are obedient to their master, but they will obey anyone who is powerful enough to cow them (which is very few beings). They act in most respects like normal, living dogs - they have a pack mentality and treat their master as the alpha, to be obeyed over all. Hounds even nuzzle up to their master to get petted, just like a living dog. They were created for use as guards, though they can be employed as hunters also.

  Hounds of Zagada feed on meat. Though they prefer fresh, it can be carrion; in either case, they require at least three pounds of meat a night (they aren't affected unduly by sunlight, but prefer to be active at night). Failure to feed them sufficiently will cause them to kill any prey they catch, regardless of the master's wishes. If the master dies, the hounds become free-willed and go feral.


  When a hound sights or smells prey, it lets out a booming howl to alert the rest of its pack, as well as its master, then races to the attack. Hounds their pack instincts and will gang up on one target (usually the strongest) to bring it down.

  Bay (Su): When a hound of Zagada howls, all creatures except other undead within a 100-foot radius must succeed at a Will save (DC 13) or become panicked for 2d4 rounds. A creature can be affected by a given hound's baying once per night. This is a sonic, mind-affecting effect. The save DC is Charisma-based.

  Skills: *Hounds of Zagada have a +4 racial bonus to Survival rolls when tracking by scent.
