The desert is unforgiving to those who travel its expanses unprepared, to which the many skeletons one finds there can attest. Sand wraiths are the spirits of those who have died of dehydration, wandering aimlessly through the burning sands, dazzled by the sun, parched by the heat, and eventually collapsing from thirst. They appear as swirling, man-shaped forms of loose wind-blown sand with black pits for eyes and a mouth. They do not speak, but some people have reported hearing them moaning like a lonely wind across the dunes.


Sandwraiths can manifest from the desert sands in a few seconds, often surprising the unwary. Their favorite tactic is to attack hapless travellers caught in sandstorms, hidden by the swirling murk, though they can also suddenly appear during day or night (they are not affected by sunlight).

Create Spawn (Su): Any humanoid or monstrous humanoid slain by a sandwraith’s Con drain becomes a sandwraith in 1d4 hours. Spawn are under the command of the sandwraith that created them and remain enslaved until its death. Spawn do not possess any of the abilities they had in life.

Transmute Water to Dust (Su): A sandwraith can turn up to 5 cubic yards of water to dust by touch, 3 times per day.

Skills: Sandwraiths gain a +6 racial bonus to Stealth checks to hide in desert or sandy terrain.
